Today Snapm is announcing "Power" accounts for photographers who are looking to boost their online presence and grow their business. Currently priced at $9.95/year (or less than $1/month), the Power account includes the following features:

  • 10 portfolio albums (as opposed to the 3 offered to free accounts)
  • Higher rankings in search results
  • Link to your existing photography web site
  • Link to your twitter account
All these tools will allow photographers to show off their talent and their existing web presence. Free users will continue to enjoy all the free benefits of Snapm as well and can upgrade at any time.

As a special offer, Snapm will be giving away free power accounts to the next 100 photographers to sign up. Sign up now for free

All existing Snapm users will also be given free Power accounts as well.

* Many new features will be rolled out soon in both the free versions and the Power versions. Snapm reserves the right to adjust pricing accordingly, however current Power users will retain their power accounts for a year before the price changes for them.

Wed, 23 Dec 2009 13:02:39 -0800 Now Get Booked For Photography Jobs On Snapm http://blog.snapm.com/now-get-booked-for-photography-jobs-on-snapm http://blog.snapm.com/now-get-booked-for-photography-jobs-on-snapm

Today is another big day at Snapm as we've launched our new booking system. This means that our photographers can now get booked for photography jobs and paid for doing what they love. As with all things we release, right now the booking system is relatively simple, but we plan to expand it every day to support more and more features that our users request. Right now it works as follows:

  1. Potential customers browse through photographers on Snapm and message the ones that they are interested in hiring to find out about their interest and availability in the job.
  2. If both parties agree, then the customer can "book the photographer" for a job. The customer enters their credit card information at this point.
  3. The photographer can accept or reject the offer. If they accept, then Snapm immediately charges the customer's credit card the full amount for the job.
  4. After the job is completed, Snapm pays the photographer by check or paypal (their choice) within a week of the completion of the job.
Right now the cost for a job is based solely on the length of the job and the hourly rate of the photographer. In the near future we plan to release "special offers" in which photographers can charge arbitrary prices for negotiated jobs, and "counter offers" in which photographers can counter the offers that customers make. Enjoy!

As of today you can now upload multiple photos at once to Snapm using our new flash uploader. This is a long overdue feature, but it should make album creation a whole lot quicker. Last week we released Flickr importing, and combined these two features should let you get all your best shots into your portfolio in just a couple of minutes.

Let us know what you think, and if you have any issues with these two new features send us email any time at help@snapm.com.

Snapm is pleased to announce that you can now easily import your best Flickr photos directly into your portfolio. We got overwhelming feedback from our early users that this was the one feature that they wanted most. To import photos from Flickr simply create or edit your portfolio project and instead of choosing "Upload Photo To Project" choose "Import Photos From Your Flickr Account." We've also upped the number of photos per project to 18. Let us know if you need more.

Tue, 24 Nov 2009 14:29:00 -0800 Snapm Opens Its Doors http://blog.snapm.com/snapm-opens-its-doors http://blog.snapm.com/snapm-opens-its-doors

<img src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/bison-static/snapm_screen.png" />

Today we are happy to announce that we are quietly opening the doors of Snapm.com to the world.

What is Snapm you ask...
Snapm is a place where people can find and book a capable local amateur photographer, hopefully at a reasonable price. With today's equipment, technology, and online resources we believe that there are plenty of amateur, hobbyist. and up-and-coming photographers out there who can do almost as good of a job as a professional can, but they just need a little help getting noticed and hired. We'd like to give them that extra help by providing them with an instant platform to create an online portfolio, get contacted, get booked, get reviewed, and sell their prints.

Wow, can it really do all of that already?
At Snapm we're big believers in the startup mantra "release early, release often." As such, the site doesn't yet have every one of the above mentioned features. But trust us when we say that we're going to have them all soon. We'll be releasing new features frequently (sometimes multiple times per day), so check back often with this blog to stay up to date.

What would I hire an amateur photographer for?
It may have never occurred to you to hire a photographer for any reason before because it was always so expensive to hire a professional, and inconvenient to find an amateur. But Snapm opens the doors to the idea of hiring an affordable amateur photographer for any of the following occasions:
  • Night out on the town
  • Engagement party
  • Baby or children's portraits
  • Couples shots
  • Shots of something you're selling (including your house or your car)
  • Modeling head shots
  • Shots of your business for your web site or press release
  • Birthday celebration
  • Corporate event
How can I try it?
Head over to Snapm.com and create your free portfolio if you're a photographer, or begin browsing for local photographers if you're looking for one. We literally just opened our doors so there aren't very many photographers on the site yet, but hopefully there will be soon.

We look forward to working with you all soon!
